I’m just not sure how I feel about this new trend of making new photographs look old.  You see it on every photographer’s site now.  Every shot in their portfolio has been made to look either old, sepia, or cross-processed (a trick discovered by accident when E-6 film gets processed in C-41 chemicals) and grunge overlays to destroy what was once a crystal clear image expressing every fine skin and hair detail that leaves non-pro’s in awe.

Sure, there are plug-ins for Photoshop that can make this all happen in minutes but those where made for non-pro’s and they show.  No, I actually like the effect.  The only issue I have is that when I’m taking photo’s of my loved ones I really don’t want to see these effects destroying those perfect image.  I will save these effects for the Graduation/Senior photos and Bands and Artists but not real portraiture.  Not unless a client really wants this look.
